Champagne Andre Clouet

Falstaff Online 2022

The Clouets have been producing wine for 200 years, when Napoleon gave the Clouet family parcels of land in Bouzy in gratitude for their services as the king's clerk. And today, an almost legendary reputation precedes them, not only because the opening of a Champagne bottle with a saber is said to have premiered here in the Clouets' cellar. Many a critic and aficionado sees the Champagnes with the Cluoet signum right up front among the top ten in Champagne, and this despite the fact that the bottles from the small production of just nine hectares and are hardly available. But these parcels have it all; they are located in the best Grand Cru sites of Bouzy and one is even in the immediate vicinity of the legendary "Vieilles Vignes Françaises" of Bollinger. Organic vineyard management, rigorous yield restrictions and natural clarification of the wines are a matter of course at the House of Clouet. Barrels of the renowned Sauternes from Château Doisy-Daëne are even used in the cellar. The Champagne of the house, from the "Grand Reserve Grand Cru Brut" to the "Rosé Grand Cru", the "V6 Grand CR" to the "Silver Brut Nature", are powerful, yet balanced, harmonious and profound. And then there are two precious and very rare Champagne: the "1911", a reminiscence of the 1911 vintage, produced in an edition of 1,911 bottles from the oldest Pinot Noir vines of the winery, and the "Clos de Bouzy", a pure Pinot Noir Champagne from a small vineyard surrounded by a wall, a "Clos", which is only bottled in magnums. This exceptional Champagne is one of the most sought-after rarities in Champagne.
