The winery of the Leth family in Fels is located directly on the loess terraces of Wagram. Probably no other wine-growing region in Austria is so terroir-driven like Wagram. The loess significantly characterizes the wines; the Grüner Veltliner expresses superb suppleness, density, and harmony. It is, therefore, no coincidence that more than half of the impressive 52 hectares of vineyards are dedicated to this variety. Five varied Grüner Veltliners are pressed from the south-facing terraced vineyards. Outstanding among these are the two single-vineyard wines from the Brunnthal and Scheiben vineyards, which are classified as "Erste Lagen" of the Traditionsweingüter Österreich. It is not the striking primary fruit in the foreground of these wines but rather the complexity of the aromatics, fine minerality, and excellent potential for long bottle ageing. The fact that the Veltliners from the Leth Winery are among the best in the country is impressively reflected by their first-place rankings in the "Falstaff Grüner Veltliner Grand Prix" as well as in the "SALON Österreich Wein".
In addition to Grüner Veltliner, the winery focuses on the traditional Wagramer variety Roter Veltliner. A highly successful composition of supple fruit notes and succulence demonstrates the high quality potential of this increasingly popular variety, which is vinified in three styles at the Leth Winery.
Thanks to Franz Leth Jr.'s commitment, he gained experience with organic cultivation over a decade ago, and the entire winery was certified organic with the 2021 harvest. Franz Leth Jr. is also uncompromising in all matters relating to quality; despite the extensive vineyard area, harvesting is done 100 per cent by hand, the recently built new press facility has been set up according to the principles for maximum gentle processing, and the estate's top site wines are matured for at least one year in large traditional wooden barrels. The new sparkling wine range under development also focuses only on the two highest quality levels, "Sekt Austria Reserve" and "Sekt Austria Große Reserve".
